Writtle welcomed Clacton for the rearranged league fixture to Paradise Rd. Writtle still struggling with injuries, with three players having to
with draw on the morning of the game, it was another changed up line up for Writtle. Still the squad selected shows there is depth of players starting to boost the team.
To coin a well used football phase, it was a game of two halves. The first 30 minutes of the game was one to forget for the home side. Turning the ball over to Clacton on at least four occassion when they had the ball in thier possesion, Clacton clinincally punished Writtle with simiple finshing to romp into a 26 -3 lead with a soildarity penalty from J Gresty to get Writtle on the score sheet. The final stages of the half saw Writtle start to attack with more confidence and retain the ball better to see skipper Lawson Cook score with the conversion from Gresty. The good work was again undone as from the kick off saw Writtle failing to secure thier ruck ball for Clacton to finish the half with another converted try.
The second half beagn better for Writtle, playing with a much better tempo and keeping hold of possession, Clacton now were the team defending. Eventually the break through came from Flynn Williams. The restart saw much of the same pressure, with Writtle in search of some first half redemption, Clacton were agian defending well and using a lot of thier experiance in getting some favourable decisions. Some good work saw Sam Newsome break the defensive line to find a supporting Gresty for the thrid Writtle try. Writtle now went in search of a fourh try but could not find a way through with the clock now also against them.
Much must be taken from the second half performance, keeping a strong and well drilled Clacton side off the score sheet and showing great commitment and character to get back into the game
