Keveldon & Feering take the points

Saturday saw Writtle play thier first ever game at Keveldon & Feering rugby club. The conditions were prefect after the recent weather, Writtle side again much changed started the game on the back foot, early pressure and silly penalties gave the home side the first points from a successful penalty kick. The game then was a battle of two committed sides, Writtle having a lot of the ball but good defence and wasted opportunities kept the scores the same. Writtle dominate in the line out and winning their scrum ball eventually saw K&F give away a penalty which J. Gresty the chance to draw the scores level which he did. Half time and it was much the same pattens of play with both teams testing each others defences. It was from a line out take and drive which saw Sam Newson eventually breach the defence and score the first try. K&F responded well, but Writtle held firm. The home side used their bench well and rolling replacements kept the pressure on. With the game nearing the end and Writtle hanging on, it was a mistake by Writtle saw a turn over and K&F quickly used the ball and scored in the corner to even the scores. The final minutes saw Writtle visibly trying, the home side eventually saw one of their big runners break the line and support was on hand for the winning score. A tough loss again in the dying seconds, but the effort for this much changed squad was a massive plus.
Next week will see the last league fixture at home to Witham which will see another tough match, but Writtle will be hoping some of their injured players will hopefully be available.
