Saturday saw Writtle take a squad over to Billericay for a friendly fixture, sadly due to some cry offs only turned up with 16 players, but still a strong squad. Billericay sprung a match day surprise with saying they only had 16 players as well, but no front row, so uncontested scrums were the order of the day, which was disappointing for Writtle. In very unseasonable conditions, it was the home side that got the scores going, stout defence left Billericay with the only option of a drop goal which was well taken by their 10. Writtle soon got into their stride attacking down hill, Billericay held firm but were eventually breached with Lawson Cook dotting down with James Gresty adding the second points. Billericay replied with a score before half time.
The second half was full of highs & lows for Writtle, a great start saw continue pressure and it was rewarded with a Chris Clements try and 2 further points. Jack Sylvester added a well work score out wide to extend the lead. Writtle continue to push Billericay, it was from an attacking lineout that Writtle suffered two big blows, with skipper Kieran Redfern and Zach le Cornu, having to leave the field due to serious injuries. A yellow card was issued and Writtle saw themselves down to 12 men for the last 15 minutes, Billericay used the numerical advantage well and with the sudden appearance of extra players for the final push, saw them cross Writtle's line for 3 further scores.
A big thank you must go to the Billericay physio for his help with the Writtle injured players
